The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is facing a calculator crisis, leaving students in a difficult situation. Reports emerged that some examinations were written without calculators, prompting WAEC to send a limited number of calculators to schools, which were shared among students. However, many students were left without calculators, forcing some to share during the physics examination.
Students have expressed frustration and concern about the difficulty they faced during the chemistry practical examination, which was written without calculators. With the mathematics examination approaching, students are anxious about the availability of calculators. WAEC’s inability to provide calculators has put students at a disadvantage, affecting their performance in the examinations.
The calculator crisis has raised questions about WAEC’s preparedness and organization. Students and parents are calling on WAEC to ensure that calculators are made available before the mathematics examination to avoid a repeat of the chaos. The council must take immediate action to address this issue and ensure a smooth conduct of the examinations.
