It was a very bad day for everyone living in the community of Agu-Amede including me Chukwurah Chiamaka, Mr Julian Chukwudi Ekwunife and my family members Ann Ngozi Chukwurah, Chinyelu Ann Chukwurah, Ogechukwu Chukwurah, Oluchukwu Chukwurah on Sunday 20th November 2022.
It was the usual perpetrators we have been hearing of from other neighbouring communities, the Fulani Herdsmen. They attacked people and buildings looting those buildings that were under lock and keys. There were different sounds including gunshots, groans of people in pains after been injured and cries of people mourning their loved ones, My in-laws were shot, both Husband and wifes, some are kidnapped.
I and my family ran for safety. On our way we met others who were also running for safety. When we got to our hide out, we agreed to take turns in watching the surrounding. Not knowing we are hiding in the Fulani herdsmen base. They held everyone captive and took us to another location with everyone.
They engaged the herdsmen in gun fight for hours while we hid under the bushes. The army were able to rescue some of us and they took us to an internally displaced persons camp set up by the state government, it was when I got there, I had some form of serenity.
It was announced that governor Ugwaunyi has directed a state Government’s delegation to visit the victims in the hospital and IDPS camp to review adequate medical attention.
My family members Ann Ngozi Chukwurah, Chinyelu Ann Chukwurah, Ogechukwu Chukwurah, Oluchukwu Chukwurah was last seen when the Herdsmen attacked us. they have identified all the dead and those admitted at the hospital due to injuries sustained in the attack, I’m afraid they might have been kidnapped or killed and their corpse taken away that all efforts to reach them has been in vain as their phone has been switched off. since our team and other security agency were already on the trail of the attackers, I was advised to go home and await the outcome of our men in pursuit of the assailants.
