The Girl Guides Association has inducted Dr. Adeola Ekine, a renowned journalist, into its membership. The induction took place during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) secretariat. Mrs. Titilola Oluwatoyin, National PRO of the Girl Guides Association, introduced the association to the audience, emphasizing its mission to empower girls and young women.

Dr. Ekine, now a member of the association, stressed the importance of collaboration between NAWOJ and the Girl Guides Association, highlighting NAWOJ’s passion for the girl child and women. She pledged to work with journalists to ensure adequate coverage of girls’ and women’s issues on various media platforms.

Deaconess Mrs. Olufunmilayo Thomas, Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association, praised Dr. Ekine for her membership and encouraged girls and youth to participate in the upcoming anniversary camp. The camp, scheduled for August, will have a fee of #5000 naira and will attract participants from neighboring African countries.

The association also acknowledged the role of state Governors’ wives as Patrons of the Girl Guides Association in each state, urging their presence at the August event. Deaconess Rhoda Thomas, Chief Commissioner for the B Zone, and Mrs. Modupe Caroline Akingbesote, Lagos State Commissioner, expressed their excitement about the collaboration between the two organizations.

The delegation from the Girl Guides Association included Mrs. Omowunmi Ajayi, Mrs. Ilesanmi Tolu, and Mrs. Ebunoluwa Olaoluwa. The induction and courtesy visit aimed to strengthen the partnership between the Girl Guides Association and NAWOJ, promoting the empowerment and development of girls and young women in Nigeria.
