In a remarkable turnaround, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced a record-breaking revenue collection of N12.36 trillion, surpassing its 2023 target by 7%. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the agency’s quest to optimize tax administration in Nigeria.

According to a statement released by the FIRS, the organization has undergone a strategic transformation since Dr. Zacch Adedeji assumed office in September 2023. The reforms have focused on enhancing efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Key highlights of the FIRS’ achievements include:

  • Automation of over 80% of manual processes through the integration of nine new modules on the TaxProMax system
  • Streamlining of tax office operations into a “One stop shop” for diverse taxpayers, resulting in improved customer satisfaction and reduced complaints
  • Simplification of tax processes, personalized services, and enhanced tax education, leading to a 20% increase in tax compliance
  • Launch of the National Single Window initiative to facilitate trade and economic growth
  • Improved tax compliance among international shipping companies lifting crude oil in Nigeria

Dr. Adedeji attributed the success to the agency’s commitment to fair tax administration, responsiveness, and accessibility. “Our vision is to be one of the world’s most efficient and trusted revenue services, and we are steadfast in our pursuit of this goal,” he said.

The FIRS’ achievements have been hailed as a significant step towards Nigeria’s economic development. With its renewed focus on efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction, the agency is poised to continue making strides in tax administration.
