The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has come to the defense of billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, saying he should not be blamed for buying dollars at a lower rate to build his refinery. Sanusi argued that Dangote purchased dollars at the same rate as everyone else on the same day, as determined by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Emir also criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for allegedly perpetuating a lucrative subsidy scam, saying they don’t want to end it. He praised Dangote for his refinery project, stating it’s a better use of forex than importing petroleum products and will have a significant impact on the economy.
Sanusi concluded by saying Nigeria should strive to create more entrepreneurs like Dangote instead of criticizing him out of envy and pettiness.
