The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), in partnership with TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, SAPETRO, CNOOC, and PRIME 130, has launched a new mammography centre at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State. This facility is part of NNPC’s commitment to enhancing cancer care across Nigeria, following an earlier centre established in Adamawa.
The new centre provides cutting-edge diagnostic tools, including the Senographe Pristina 3D mammography system and stereotactic biopsy capabilities, allowing for over 120 screenings daily. Alongside its high-tech equipment, the centre includes dedicated treatment rooms, a radiologist’s office, and a comfortable waiting area designed for patient care and efficiency.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC’s Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS)—represented by Mr. Sani Kabo, Head of Business Services—emphasized NNPC’s dedication to improving healthcare nationwide. “This centre reflects the vision of NNPC’s GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, for a stronger healthcare system in Nigeria, providing timely cancer diagnosis and treatment,” Wunti stated.
TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited’s Managing Director, Mr. Matthieu Bouyer, represented by Mrs. Tonye Osifo, Acting General Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, added that the centre aligns with the company’s global #WorkingWithCancer initiative to support patients in treatment and recovery. “Through projects like this, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the fight against cancer,” Bouyer said.
The facility brings vital cancer care services to Nasarawa and the North Central region, advancing access to early detection and potentially life-saving interventions.
