The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Butane Energy Limited marked a significant milestone on Friday in their effort to expand access to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a clean, affordable cooking fuel. The two partners commissioned a new 180-metric-tonne LPG Filling Plant in Kaduna, Kaduna State, advancing their shared vision of cleaner energy for Nigerian households.

This facility, following the launch of a 100MT LPG storage and bottling plant in Katsina in 2021, is part of a larger initiative to establish five LPG plants in Northern Nigeria, with a combined storage capacity of 1,000MT. The Kano LPG Storage and Bottling Plant is set for commissioning in early 2025, with construction in progress on another plant in Bauchi, and plans for an additional facility in Abuja.

Speaking after the Kaduna commissioning ceremony, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, represented by Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Abdulmalik Halilu, highlighted Butane Energy’s successful business model for enhancing gas accessibility across Northern Nigeria. This, he noted, aligns with NCDMB’s mandate to support domestic capacity building through strategic equity funding, creating over 200 jobs and increasing local content in the process.

The project also reflects the Federal Government’s goals for a greener Nigeria by 2026, supporting the transition to cleaner cooking fuels and reducing reliance on kerosene and firewood. NCDMB’s investment supports LPG adoption as a sustainable energy source in line with Nigeria’s net-zero emissions ambitions.

Alhaji Isa Inuwa Muhammed, Chairman of Butane Energy Ltd, acknowledged NCDMB’s role as a co-owner and praised the Board’s confidence in Butane’s commitment to making LPG widely available across Northern Nigeria. Established in 2017, Butane Energy has expanded its LPG distribution network with a strong focus on accessibility and regional impact.

This Kaduna plant is part of NCDMB’s strategic investment portfolio, designed to drive in-country capacity, promote environmental sustainability, and build a cleaner energy future for Nigeria.
