The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has increased its daily crude oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd), marking a significant step toward reaching its year-end target of 2 mbpd. Additionally, the company reported that gas production has climbed to 7.4 standard cubic feet per day (scfd).

Announced during a press briefing on Thursday, this accomplishment aligns with the mandate set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari commended the Production War Room Team for their relentless work in restoring and scaling up production, noting that the achievement reflects the NNPC’s commitment to meeting both short- and long-term objectives for shareholders and stakeholders.

Chief War Room Coordinator Lawal Musa, also a Senior Business Adviser to the GCEO, elaborated on the concerted efforts behind the production surge. The progress, he stated, has been possible due to joint actions from NNPC’s Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract partners, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and several government and private security agencies. Security has been a focal point, with close monitoring of pipelines to prevent disruptions.

Musa recounted that, upon the Production War Room’s launch in June, production was at 1.43 mbpd. Within a few months, the team’s proactive measures raised output to 1.7 mbpd by August and ultimately achieved the current rate of 1.808 mbpd in November. With the continued collaboration of all stakeholders, Musa expressed confidence that the 2 mbpd goal is achievable by year-end.

Chairman of the NNPC Ltd Board, Chief Pius Akinyelure, shared in the celebrations, expressing pride in the production milestone. He urged NNPC’s management to craft a cashflow projection based on the latest output to enhance planning and called for future growth toward a potential 3 mbpd target.
