Yosola Onanuga, Head of Sustainability at TGI Group, has called for the adoption of circular economy practices to boost resource efficiency and minimize waste in agriculture and food production. She made this appeal at the 12th West African Clean Energy and Environment Conference (WACEE) in Lagos.

Speaking on TGI Group’s commitment to sustainability, Onanuga emphasized the transformative potential of shifting from a linear to a circular economy. “Transitioning requires significant investment, but the long-term economic and environmental benefits are immense,” she said. “At TGI, we’ve embedded circularity into our business model, focusing on resource recovery and maximizing value at every stage of production.”

Highlighting TGI’s success in circular practices, Onanuga cited the company’s rice milling operations in Argungu, Kebbi State, where agricultural by-products are converted into energy. “By utilizing waste from rice processing, we are reducing environmental impact and generating power for our operations, showcasing the tangible benefits of a circular economy,” she explained.

The conference brought together stakeholders from across West Africa to address environmental challenges and explore innovative solutions in renewable energy and resource management. Discussions also included the role of government policies in encouraging private-sector adoption of circular economy models.

Onanuga reaffirmed TGI Group’s alignment with Nigeria’s environmental objectives and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Across its sectors, including agribusiness, oil and gas, and manufacturing, TGI continues to lead in integrating sustainability into business operations, ensuring a balance between environmental stewardship and economic development
