The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has clarified that there is no discrepancy between its crude oil production figures and those reported by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Addressing recent media reports suggesting a mismatch between the 1.54 million barrels per day (mbpd) figure cited by the NUPRC for September 2024 and the 1.8mbpd figure cited by NNPC Ltd for November 2024, the company explained that the figures represent different timeframes.
According to NNPC Ltd, the 1.8mbpd figure represents the peak production for October 2024, while the NUPRC’s 1.54mbpd reflects the average daily production for September 2024.
This clarification was corroborated by the NUPRC Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, during the 42nd Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) Annual International Conference & Exhibition in Lagos. Represented by the Executive Commissioner for Development and Production, Mr. Enorense Amadasu, Komolafe stated that Nigeria’s crude oil output, including condensates, surged by 16.56% from 1.54mbpd in September to 1.8mbpd in October 2024.
“This represents an increase of 253,710 barrels per day to reach 1.8 million bpd in October, up from 1.54 million bpd in September 2024,” he said, adding that the achievement exceeded Nigeria’s OPEC quota of 1.5mbpd.
Both NNPC Ltd and the NUPRC reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively with stakeholders to further increase production to 2mbpd and beyond by the end of 2024, underscoring their shared goal of enhancing Nigeria’s energy output.
