The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced a major probe into alleged consumer rights violations by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), MTN Nigeria, and Air Peace. The investigations, scheduled for December 3, 4, and 5, 2024, aim to address widespread complaints of poor service delivery and exploitative practices in the banking, telecommunications, and aviation sectors.

Key Focus Areas:

GTBank: Accusations of persistent network failures preventing customers from accessing funds or using banking applications.

MTN Nigeria: Complaints about undelivered data services, unexplained data depletion, and inadequate customer care.

Air Peace: Allegations of exploitative ticket pricing, including significant increases for advance bookings on specific domestic routes.

The FCCPC will leverage provisions of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018 to conduct these investigations. The companies are expected to appear before the Commission to address concerns, clarify practices, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

This action underscores the FCCPC’s commitment to protecting consumer rights, promoting a fair marketplace, and holding corporations accountable. Consumers are encouraged to report poor service delivery or exploitative practices via the Commission’s official channels.
