The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to unfreeze all accounts belonging to the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA) within 72 hours.
The resolution was passed during a plenary session, where lawmakers stressed that the frozen accounts were hindering the agency’s ability to carry out its mandate of alleviating poverty and supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
According to the House, unfreezing these accounts is crucial to ensuring that funds allocated for social welfare programs reach the intended beneficiaries without further delays. Lawmakers argued that the prolonged freezing of NSIPA accounts is counterproductive and could exacerbate the economic hardships faced by millions of Nigerians.
The directive reflects the legislature’s commitment to holding the executive accountable and ensuring that critical government interventions aimed at poverty reduction and social protection are implemented effectively.
