The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reaffirmed that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is fully operational, with active loading operations underway. This declaration was made by the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kyari, during the commissioning of the NUPENG Towers in Lagos on Wednesday.

Addressing lingering skepticism about the refinery’s status, Kyari extended an open invitation to human rights activist and lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, and other doubters, to embark on a tour of the refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna for firsthand verification.

Kyari also addressed the controversy surrounding products blending, emphasizing its necessity in refining processes. “Blending is not a crime; it ensures that products meet the specific requirements of different markets. Without blending, off-spec products would damage vehicles,” he stated.

Highlighting the progress in the oil and gas sector, Kyari applauded the Federal Government’s interventions through Executive Orders, noting that they have attracted increased investments and created more job opportunities

In his remarks, the NNPC boss congratulated NUPENG on the completion of its new headquarters, urging the union to maintain dialogue and cooperation in its engagements with NNPC and the government.

The NNPC’s stance and open invitation underscore its commitment to transparency amid heightened scrutiny of its operations and Nigeria’s refining capacity.
