The Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) has recognized Comrade Adeola Ekine, Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, with the prestigious award for Exemplary Leadership for Positive Repositioning of Women Journalists in Lagos State. The award ceremony took place on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Ladi Lawal Press Center, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
This award celebrates Dr. Ekine’s tireless dedication to advancing the cause of women in journalism. Under her leadership, NAWOJ Lagos has championed initiatives such as the empowerment of female journalists, the promotion of gender equality, and advocacy for the rights and welfare of women in the media profession. Notably, her tenure has seen the establishment of the NAWOJ Lagos Daycare and local and international training programs for members.
In her address, PJAN Chairperson Mrs. Alaba Igbaraola praised Dr. Ekine as a trailblazer whose leadership and innovative strategies have transformed NAWOJ Lagos. Mrs. Igbaraola highlighted her exceptional ethics, strategic decision-making, and commitment to fostering inclusivity and collaboration, describing her as a leader whose impact will resonate in the industry for years.
Receiving the award, Dr. Ekine expressed gratitude to PJAN for the recognition, crediting the collective efforts of the NAWOJ Lagos team. She reaffirmed her commitment to championing initiatives that empower women and foster excellence in journalism.
Dr. Ekine also commended PJAN for its vital contributions to the media profession through visual storytelling, which she described as pivotal in shaping narratives and documenting history.
A member of multiple professional organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Institute of Public Sector Management (IPSM) UK, Dr. Ekine’s leadership continues to inspire positive change in journalism and beyond.
