The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced a New Year Strategic Action Plan aimed at reducing crime and enhancing law enforcement efficiency across Nigeria. The directive, issued to all police commands and formations nationwide, is designed to bolster public safety and ensure a more proactive approach to policing in 2025.

The IGP emphasized the importance of data-driven strategies and proactive measures to address criminal activities effectively. This move comes after recent assessments highlighted the need for heightened vigilance, attitudinal changes, and improved community-based policing.

Key initiatives outlined in the plan include intelligence-led policing, intensified training and capacity-building programs, public awareness campaigns, and a renewed commitment to public safety. The goal is to significantly curb crime in the first quarter of 2025 while fostering better relations between the police and the communities they serve.

The IGP also called on officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their engagements with the public. He urged them to remain adaptable, continuously updating their strategies to address evolving security challenges.

To ensure the plan’s effective implementation, the IGP is scheduled to meet virtually with Strategic Commanders on Monday, January 13, 2025. This meeting will serve as a platform to align on the operational framework and emphasize the importance of the outlined objectives.

The initiative underscores the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to delivering efficient and community-focused policing while maintaining public trust and safety.
