President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside top military and government officials, flagged off the construction of a new Armed Forces Complex in Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday. The landmark project, entrusted to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security infrastructure.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, highlighted the need for the new complex, citing the inadequacy of the current facility in Area 10, Garki. He emphasized that the decision to engage Julius Berger was deliberate, given the company’s proven track record of delivering high-profile, sensitive projects efficiently and on schedule.

“The new complex, strategically located near Mpape and Asokoro Rocks, offers enhanced security and represents a step forward in our quest to modernize the Armed Forces,” said General Musa.

President Tinubu, commending the foresight of the military leadership, challenged stakeholders to ensure that the first phase of the project is completed before the end of his administration. “This project will enhance the resilience and capacity of our Armed Forces. You’ve never lost a war before, and you will win this one,” he remarked.

Julius Berger’s Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch, expressed gratitude for being entrusted with the project, describing it as a symbol of national pride and strength. “For 60 years, Julius Berger has reliably delivered critical infrastructure in Nigeria, and we are confident in exceeding expectations with this iconic project,” Lubasch said.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature four interconnected buildings with a gross floor area exceeding 100,000 m². It will include offices, operational centers, libraries, gyms, canteens, and a 1,500-capacity conference hall. Designed to accommodate approximately 3,000 personnel, the complex will be tailored to meet the dynamic security demands of Nigeria’s rapidly evolving landscape.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by top dignitaries, including the Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and heads of other security and intelligence agencies.

With this project, the Federal Government aims to provide a centralized, modern infrastructure to enhance the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Armed Forces, solidifying their role in safeguarding the nation.
