President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGoF). His appointment, which follows a rigorous selection process, takes effect on March 7, 2025, the same day the outgoing AGoF, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire.
According to a statement from the President’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, Ogunjimi emerged as the top candidate after a merit-based selection process. The process involved a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews, with only Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service being eligible to participate.
The appointment reflects Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, competence, and excellence in key public service roles. Ogunjimi, 57, was initially identified as Madehin’s successor in December 2024 before undergoing the competitive selection process.
A seasoned financial expert, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to serve the nation with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
