President Bola Tinubu has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of negligence following a recent pipeline explosion in the state. The accusation came during a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, where Tinubu expressed concern over escalating political tension and security breaches in Rivers State.
According to the president, Governor Fubara’s alleged demolition of the State Assembly complex and failure to rebuild it for 15 months contributed to the ongoing crisis. He also blamed the governor for dismantling the legislative arm of the state government, undermining efforts to maintain order.
President Tinubu further cited security reports indicating recent incidents of pipeline vandalism by militants, which, he claimed, the governor failed to address. “I have given a stern order to the security agencies to ensure the safety of the good people of Rivers State and the oil pipelines,” Tinubu stated.
As part of measures to restore order, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and appointed Retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to oversee the state’s administration. The president emphasized that these steps were necessary to restore peace, good governance, and security in the troubled state.
