– Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery has delivered its first major shipment of jet fuel to the United States, a move analysts say could help lower aviation fuel prices ahead of the peak summer travel season.
According to data from ship-tracking service Kpler, six vessels carrying approximately 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel from the refinery have arrived at U.S. ports this month. Another shipment, carried by the vessel Hafnia Andromeda, is expected to dock at the Everglades terminal on March 29 with about 348,000 barrels of jet fuel.
While this shipment marks a rare instance of Nigerian jet fuel reaching U.S. shores, analysts suggest that Dangote Refinery is unlikely to become a regular supplier to the American market. James Noel-Beswick, an analyst at Sparta Commodities, attributed the shipments to a temporary supply gap caused by maintenance at the Phillips 66 Bayway refinery in New Jersey, which created an arbitrage opportunity.
However, he noted that the window for such exports is expected to close soon as U.S. jet fuel inventories remain high.
Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest refinery, has been ramping up production since commencing operations, with its growing output reshaping fuel supply dynamics across global markets.
