The Lagos State Government has issued a strong caution to subscribers of the ILERA EKO Health Insurance Scheme, warning against making premium payments into private bank accounts.

Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), stated at Alausa, Ikeja, that the agency operates a strict zero-cash policy. All payments, she emphasized, should be made only into the Lagos State Health Fund (LASHEF)—the designated account for health insurance contributions.

“Any attempt to demand payment into an agent’s personal account, except the Lagos State Health Fund (LASHEF), is fraudulent and criminal,” Dr. Zamba warned.

To ensure transparency, she clarified that enrollees can only make premium payments via POS terminals at LASHMA headquarters, divisional offices, sub-divisional offices, and official kiosks across the state.

Addressing concerns about activation delays, she dismissed claims that LASHMA was failing to activate enrollees. She explained that activation begins on the 26th of every month, following the premium payment cut-off date on the 25th.

Dr. Zamba urged Lagos residents to verify their payments by including their policy number and full name when making transactions. She also encouraged citizens to report any individuals requesting payments into personal accounts or spreading misinformation about the scheme.
