The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and key capital market stakeholders will convene for the First Quarter 2025 meeting of the Capital Market Committee (CMC) on Monday, May 19, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Top on the agenda is the implementation of the newly enacted Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2025, along with strategies to enhance investor education, improve market efficiency, and safeguard investor interests in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the SEC, “The meeting will bring together key stakeholders in the Nigerian capital market to discuss the ISA 2025 as it relates to the industry’s current landscape, regulatory framework, and strategies for future growth. Participants will exchange ideas and reaffirm their commitment to fostering a robust investment climate characterised by innovation, sustainability, and investor protection.”
The committee will also deliberate on efforts to clamp down on unregistered investment schemes while promoting awareness of regulated products within the capital market.
Deliberations will be informed by reports from technical committees, market infrastructure groups, and industry observers, with a focus on emerging market trends and challenges.
The CMC, an industry-wide forum comprising the SEC, capital market operators, trade groups, and other stakeholders, was established to serve as a collaborative platform for addressing issues that impact market growth, structure, and regulation.
Attendance at the May 19 meeting is strictly by invitation and will feature CEOs from all registered capital market firms, including brokers/dealers, investment advisers
