Dr. John Momoh, OON, Chairman of Channels Media Group, owners of Channels Television, was honoured today with his appointment as Chairman of the Nigerian Reputation Management Group (NRMG) Body of Advisers. The decoration was conferred by Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), during the Institute’s Annual General Meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Momoh expressed profound gratitude and framed the appointment not merely as a personal accolade but as a solemn national duty. He emphasised the critical mission to reclaim and reposition Nigeria’s global reputation at a time when external narratives often fail to capture the country’s true potential and values.

Dr. Momoh highlighted the urgent need to rebuild trust, inspire confidence, and promote a narrative rooted in truth, progress, and possibility. He reminded communication professionals that reputation is built over time through consistency, credibility, and integrity, urging them to spearhead a new era where facts prevail and hope overcomes cynicism.

A key theme of his address was the collective responsibility of all Nigerians—both within the country and abroad—to contribute constructively to the nation’s image. He called for courageous patriotism, advocating for criticism that builds rather than destroys. He also underscored the pivotal role of social media as a powerful tool to amplify positive stories, combat misinformation, and champion national initiatives.

Furthermore, Dr. Momoh stressed that restoring Nigeria’s reputation demands untiring commitment from leaders at every level. He urged public officials to lead by example through transparency, integrity, and accountability, noting that the nation’s credibility is inseparable from that of its leadership. ”When leaders earn trust, citizens become proud ambassadors of their country” he stated

Concluding on a hopeful note, Dr. Momoh expressed confidence that the esteemed members of the NRMG Body of Advisers—comprising respected patriots and seasoned communicators—would work collaboratively to develop strategies and influence policies that enhance Nigeria’s image both domestically and internationally. He envisaged a legacy where this generation is remembered for restoring Nigeria’s standing on the global stage through collective endeavour, principled leadership, and excellence.
