The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has sounded the alarm over widespread revenue leakages and shortages threatening the 2025 federal budget.
Ogunjimi, during a courtesy visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, called for urgent collaboration between both institutions to trace fraudulent transactions and plug financial loopholes in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
“Currently, the country is witnessing a lot in terms of revenue leakages and shortages,” he said. “For us to deliver on our mandate, we need the EFCC’s support to block these gaps and stabilize the system.”
The AGF emphasized that both the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and the EFCC have overlapping financial interests and must work hand in hand to deliver a more accountable and transparent system.
Responding, Olukoyede pledged full EFCC support to ensure leakages are blocked and national resources better managed. “We want to pledge our commitment to building a sound financial system. Nigeria is resourceful—we just need to manage those resources efficiently,” she said.
This renewed collaboration follows past concerns over alleged breaches in Nigeria’s payroll system, which the OAGF denied, assuring that all employee data on the IPPIS platform remains secure.
With growing budget pressures, the federal government appears keen to tighten its grip on public finance and ensure every naira counts.
