The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sealed an Access Bank branch and a Total petrol station in Wuse, Abuja, over unpaid ground rent spanning 34 years.
The enforcement is part of a broader FCTA crackdown on defaulters. A letter seen by Daily Post reveals that the land housing the properties is officially allocated to Rana Tahir Furniture Nigeria Limited—not Access Bank. Dated March 13, 2025, and signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration, the letter states:
“The Minister of the FCT has revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 2456 within Wuse I, Cadastral Zone A02, Abuja.”
The revocation was triggered by the occupant’s persistent failure to pay ground rent—violating the terms of the Right of Occupancy granted under the Land Use Act.
Despite multiple warnings and public notices issued since 2023, the rent remained unpaid.
This move follows the recent revocation of 4,794 land titles across key Abuja districts such as Maitama, Asokoro, Garki, and Wuse. Authorities say 8,375 property owners collectively owe ₦6.97 billion in ground rent, some dating back over four decades.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike reiterated that the actions align with Section 28(5) of the Land Use Act, which empowers the government to reclaim land from defaulters.
