The Anambra State Government has resolved to confiscate and seal off facilities being used as quarters for child beggars across the state.

The decision was reached at the 10th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) held at the new government house in Awka. The move is in line with provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025, which empowers the state to shut down any premises used as holding centres for children exploited for begging.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, disclosed the development while addressing the press, stating that the initiative is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s broader security reform to make Anambra safe, secure, and free of crime.

According to Mefor, the Homeland Security Law, which also underpins the establishment of local security networks like Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-Achi (Peace Shall Reign), provides a strong legal framework to eliminate criminal activities across the state.

“Under Governor Soludo’s leadership, we’ve launched systematic security operations that have dislodged criminal hideouts and dismantled syndicates, especially in areas like Ozubulu, Isiagu, Oba, and Nnewi,” Mefor noted.

Previously besieged Local Government Areas such as Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, Orumba South, and Ogbaru have also been declared free of armed gangs, owing to coordinated security raids.

Governor Soludo commended traditional rulers and community leaders for their support, reaffirming that security, law, and order remain the bedrock of his administration’s goal to build a “livable and prosperous homeland.”
