The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) is set to announce a new spokesperson following the resignation of its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye.

Soneye confirmed his departure in a statement on Friday, citing personal and family obligations as the reason behind his decision to step aside. He expressed deep gratitude to his colleagues and the media community for their support over the past 20 months, describing his time at NNPC as an honour and a period of professional fulfilment.

“I have stepped aside from my role as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd. This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family and attend to personal responsibilities that now require my closer presence,” Soneye stated.

During his tenure, Soneye played a key role in strengthening the company’s communication strategy and corporate image, especially as NNPC transitioned into a fully commercial entity under the Petroleum Industry Act.

In his farewell message, he praised the professionalism of NNPC’s communications team and media partners, urging them to continue promoting the company’s mission to reshape Nigeria’s energy sector.

“It has been a profound honour to serve both the Company and our country, and to contribute in my own way to the ongoing transformation of NNPC Ltd. I remain a steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Ltd wherever I go,” he added.

NNPC Ltd is expected to name Soneye’s replacement in the coming days. His departure marks the end of a notable era in the company’s public affairs management, amid ongoing reforms and strategic shifts in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
