President Bola Tinubu has officially concluded his tenure as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, calling for deeper unity, vigilance, and inclusive development across the West African region.

Speaking at the close of the 67th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS in Abuja, Tinubu expressed gratitude to his fellow leaders for entrusting him with the role twice. “It has been a profound honour and privilege to lead this esteemed body,” he said.

Tinubu handed over leadership to President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, expressing confidence in his successor’s capacity to steer ECOWAS through ongoing regional challenges. Reflecting on his own term, Tinubu noted that despite facing political transitions and security threats, the bloc showed resilience and commitment.

He emphasized that political stability remains the foundation for economic integration, warning that development efforts must not be built on shaky governance. Advocating for a people-focused agenda, Tinubu urged leaders to ensure that growth is inclusive and leaves no one behind.

As he declared the session closed, Tinubu called for continued cooperation to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous West Africa.
