Six robbery suspects, believed to be members of a notorious secret cult group, broke into an abandoned uncompleted building on Sunday and attacked a homeless family of five.
The robbers, armed with guns, machetes, an axe, and charms, assaulted the family who were squatting with another homeless family in the abandoned structure located at Block 1, House 12B, Road 5, Abraham Adesanya, along the Lekki/Epe Expressway in Eti Osa, Lagos.
The armed gang, who stormed the building around 2 a.m. on June 22, targeted one of the occupants, Amina Hansatu, 45, and raped her repeatedly before inflicting injuries on her head and both hands.
Amina’s partner, Oluwafemi Joseph, 49, also sustained injuries while trying to protect her. He suffered wounds to the head and right hand. Amina’s eldest son, Richard, aged 12, was also injured as he attempted to defend his mother. He received cuts to the head and right arm.
The victims, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were initially treated by a home care nurse before being taken to Lagos Island General Hospital on Broad Street, Lagos (Odan).
The violent attack has left the family in deep shock, pain, and trauma.
The incident has been reported to the police.
