A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has sentenced one Lola Adeoye to 14 years in prison after finding her guilty of engaging in a same-sex relationship.
Justice Alexander Owoeye delivered the verdict on Thursday, April 20, 2023, ruling that Adeoye was guilty of violating Nigerian laws prohibiting same-sex relations.
According to court documents, Adeoye was caught in the act around 7 p.m. in the Oke-Mosan area of Abeokuta alongside her alleged partner, Omosalewa Odeyemi, who has been on the run since December 2022.
Following her arrest, Adeoye was arraigned and subsequently charged. During the proceedings, she pleaded guilty to the charges, stating, “I am guilty of all the allegations against me.”
Two eyewitnesses, both of whom are National Youth Service Corps members and requested anonymity, were present in court to testify about the incident.
Efforts by law enforcement to apprehend Odeyemi, the second suspect, are ongoing.
