The 2025 edition of the Tochlight Africa Safety Summit and Award (TASSA) was held on July 3 at the LCCI Conference and Exhibition Center in Lagos, bringing together top security officials, community leaders, corporate stakeholders, and public sector players to chart a path toward a safer, more security-conscious Nigeria.
With the theme “Bridging Security Gaps for a Safety-Conscious Society: A Holistic Approach,” the summit aimed to foster greater awareness and collaboration in addressing security challenges that impact national development.
Delivering the keynote on behalf of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, DCP Khan Khan Shalihu, emphasized the critical role of public participation in ensuring safety at all levels. He noted that security cannot be the exclusive duty of law enforcement agencies, but must be a collective responsibility embraced by all citizens.
“Safety consciousness is not just a policy; it is a culture we must nurture in every home, street, office, and institution,” CP Jimoh stated in his message.
Also present at the summit were notable security chiefs and stakeholders, including FRSC Lagos Sector Commander Kehinde Hamzat; Commander of NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command, Abubakar Liman Wali, represented by ACN Adewole Timothy; Ikeja Area Commander of the NDLEA; and Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, a board member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
The event attracted senior officials from diverse institutions such as LASTMA, POCACOV, NIMASA, and representatives of Lagos State government agencies. Also in attendance were traditional leaders like the Oba of Isheri Olofin, Oba Ibrahim Lawal, and the Seriki Overall of Alimosho, Alhaji Ahmed Haruna Kuraja.
The summit featured engaging panel discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on bridging institutional and community-level security gaps. Participants explored strategies for improving inter-agency collaboration, deploying digital tools for safety monitoring, and strengthening citizen participation in local security architecture.
In his remarks, Dr. Moses Oladimeji, Chairman of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) Lagos State, lauded the summit for promoting dialogue and partnerships that support a peaceful and stable society.
One of the key highlights of the event was the TASSA 2025 Award Ceremony, which celebrated individuals and organizations for exceptional contributions to public safety and security advancement in Nigeria.
Guests also included CSP Opadola Elizabeth Oluwatoyin of the Ojodu Police Division, CSP Solomon Komolafe of the Bode Thomas Division, representatives from Aiico Insurance, the Lagos State Vigilante Service, and religious leaders such as a representative of Dr. D.K. Olukoya, Founder and General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM).
In her address, Dr. Olukemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser on Health to the Lagos State Governor, highlighted the connection between public health, urban safety, and socio-economic development. She stressed that building a safety-conscious society requires cross-sector planning and a proactive governance approach.
The summit concluded with a collective pledge by attendees to apply lessons learned within their spheres of influence. Organizers were commended for curating a platform that united diverse actors to deliberate on one of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges—security.
As the nation continues to evolve, the message from TASSA 2025 was clear: safety is everyone’s business, and it begins with awareness, collaboration, and bold action.
