The Federal Government has reinforced its commitment to institutional performance and staff welfare with the commissioning of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja.

At a special staff engagement forum on Tuesday, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, described the move as part of a broader push to energise the Ministry’s workforce and improve operational efficiency.

“This Ministry is the engine room of national transformation—and that engine must be well-fuelled,” Edun stated, underscoring the critical role of staff welfare in delivering Nigeria’s economic reform agenda.

The new fleet of CNG buses, acquired under the Presidential Initiative on CNG, is intended to ease staff transportation while advancing the country’s shift to cleaner, cheaper energy sources. The initiative also aligns with the Ministry’s values of fiscal prudence, transparency, and environmental responsibility.

Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, who was also present, highlighted the programme’s broader goals of embedding sustainable transport across public institutions and stimulating domestic gas-based manufacturing and innovation.

Beyond mobility, the Minister announced the reinstatement of monthly welfare packages for staff, describing it as a practical step to boost morale and institutional cohesion during ongoing macroeconomic reforms.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, praised the Minister’s leadership, urging staff to remain committed, disciplined, and professional as the Ministry continues to steer the country through a period of economic transition.

As Nigeria pursues tough but necessary policy shifts—ranging from treasury digitalisation to market stabilisation—the Ministry’s internal unity and external credibility remain pivotal to achieving inclusive growth and restoring investor confidence.
