Dr George Agyekum Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), has been honoured as 2025 CEO of the Year – Africa and CEO of CEOs by the prestigious Ghana CEO Vision and Awards.
This latest recognition underscores Dr Donkor’s sustained leadership excellence and transformative impact on the African development finance landscape. It follows his previous accolade as 2023 CEO of the Year – Africa, presented by Ghana’s then Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
This year’s award celebrates Dr Donkor’s strategic leadership, which has propelled EBID to new heights. Under his guidance, the Bank secured upgraded credit ratings from Moody’s and Fitch, earned Green Climate Fund accreditation, and became the first financial institution to list a Green, Social and Sustainable Bond on the BRVM Regional Stock Exchange. These milestones have positioned EBID as a leading force in sustainable finance, earning it the 2024 Financial Institution of the Year title at the Africa Sustainability Awards.
Beyond institutional achievements, Dr Donkor has emerged as a continental voice in development, championing public-private partnerships and investments that drive industrial growth, job creation, and socio-economic advancement across West Africa. He has been named among the 100 Personalities Transforming Africa by Financial Afrik for three consecutive years.
The award ceremony, held in Accra on July 25, was graced by high-level dignitaries including Honourable Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed (Minister for the Interior), Honourable Dzifa Gomashie (Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts), and His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse. This year marked the fourth edition of the Ghana CEO Vision and Awards.
