The General Secretary and CEO of the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), Pastor Samuel Sanusi, has called on Nigerian leaders to seek divine guidance in addressing the nation’s mounting challenges.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Marathon Bible Reading held on Sunday at City Mission Methodist Church, Surulere, Lagos, Sanusi noted that insecurity, banditry, and the high cost of living have left Nigerians distressed.
“We encourage our leaders to turn to God for help and have the courage to lead with the fear of God,” he said, stressing that daily Bible reading and living by its teachings would bring healing and restoration to the nation.
The annual weeklong non-competitive Bible reading allows participants to read scripture aloud in any language, uninterrupted, for five days. Bibles in different Nigerian languages will also be on display, Sanusi added.
Rev. Ebenezer Olufemi, Presbyter and minister-in-charge of City Mission Methodist Church, commended BSN for reviving the culture of public Bible reading, describing it as a spiritual exercise capable of transforming the nation and curbing corruption.
This year’s edition will run from Monday to Friday across 43 reading centres in 17 states, including Lagos.
