The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has constituted a high-powered committee to investigate the train derailment that occurred on August 26, 2025, at Jerre along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.
According to the Minister, the committee will identify both the immediate and remote causes of the incident, recommend measures to prevent a recurrence, and propose strategies to enhance the overall safety and efficiency of rail transportation in Nigeria.
While expressing concern for the safety of passengers, Senator Alkali assured Nigerians that the government remains committed to securing and modernizing the country’s rail network.
The committee, chaired by Musa O. Ibrahim (DOOPST), includes senior officials from the Ministry of Transportation, the Nigerian Railway Corporation, railway inspectors, legal and technical experts, representatives of engineering firms, civil society organizations, and passenger groups.
The Minister emphasized that the findings and recommendations of the panel will guide long-term reforms to ensure safer and more reliable train services across the nation.
