Community leaders in Isoso, Shagamu GRA, Ogun State, have commended Lafarge Africa Plc for supporting the construction of the community’s first police station, urging other firms to emulate the company’s commitment to development.
Speaking at the handover ceremony on Monday, Chairman of the Royal Initiative for Development of Shagamu Community (RIDSCO), Sammy Ogunjimi, recalled that the project was initially started by community leaders but stalled due to financial challenges. He said Lafarge Africa’s intervention made the project a reality.
“We faced challenges beyond our expectations and reached out to Lafarge Africa for support. They accepted, and today we are here for the handover. Having this police station will improve security in the community. I urge other companies to emulate what Lafarge Africa is doing,” Ogunjimi said.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Lanre Ogunlowo, who received the facility on behalf of the Nigerian Police Force, noted the importance of security presence in the area. He pledged that the command would provide logistics and personnel for effective operations while assuring the community of accountability in managing the station.
Representing Lafarge Africa’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Head of Sustainability and Sponsorships, Gabriel Pollyn, described the project as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to public safety and sustainable development.
Head of the Isoso Family, Alhaji Ganiyu Oladipo, revealed that the family donated the land and laid the foundation in 2020, before Lafarge Africa’s intervention turned it into a completed project.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Babatunde Adewale (CFR), the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, represented by Oba Adewale Osiberu, the Elepe of Epe.
