Lagos is set to host an unprecedented gathering of 60,000 teachers at the “Let There Be Teachers” Conference on September 20, 2025, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), in what is projected to become a Guinness World Record event.

Ahead of the landmark conference, school leaders, proprietors, and education stakeholders held a strategy session to align on school growth, sustainability, and logistics for mobilizing the historic turnout.

Coach Luyi Armstrong, General Secretary of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), described the event as a milestone in Nigeria’s education history.
“This is a precursor to the event coming up next Saturday. For the first time, teachers will gather on such a scale to discuss their challenges and celebrate their contributions. All teachers are encouraged to attend,” Armstrong said.

Convener of the conference, education advocate Oluwaseyi Anifowose, stressed the link between teacher empowerment and national development.
“The growth of our schools is directly tied to the growth of our teachers. When we empower schools, we empower educators, and ultimately, we secure the future of education in Nigeria,” he stated.

Also speaking, Dr. Hakeem Subair, co-founder of 1 Million Teachers (1MT), called for renewed attention to teachers’ welfare.
“It is time for society to pay more attention to teachers’ issues. Teachers play a remarkable role in shaping society and building harmony,” he said.

Other education leaders, including entrepreneur Ronke Posh Adeniyi, strategist Rotimi Eyitayo, innovation expert Rhoda Odigboh, and global education consultant Prof. Akin Akinpelu, also contributed, emphasizing innovation, leadership, and strategies for sustainable school growth.

The “Let There Be Teachers” Conference will serve as a major platform for addressing Nigeria’s education challenges. With policymakers, school leaders, and global partners in attendance, the conference aims to advance solutions to learning poverty, promote technology-driven teaching, and strengthen teacher training, while celebrating educators as key drivers of national progress.
