The Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, has commended the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE) for its role in promoting excellence in insurance and pension journalism, as the body marked its 10th Annual Conference at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Addressing participants, Omosehin described NAIPE’s efforts as pivotal in shaping a positive image of the insurance and financial sectors. He highlighted the critical role insurance plays in economic stability, providing a safety net for individuals, businesses, and government, while mobilizing long-term savings, promoting investments, and reducing the financial burden on the state.
Omosehin noted that the conference theme, “Strengthening Pension and Insurance Framework for Better Economy,” aligns with the National Insurance Commission’s (NAICOM) strategic initiatives to enhance the sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth. He also referenced the recently enacted Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 as a landmark framework designed to modernize the industry, drive innovation, and improve consumer protection.
“The NIIRA 2025 is not just legislation; it is a transformative catalyst creating an enabling environment for innovation, novel product development, and elevated consumer protection standards,” Omosehin said.
He emphasized NAICOM’s commitment to collaboration with NAIPE and other stakeholders to promote awareness, education, and innovation in the insurance sector, while ensuring policyholders and beneficiaries receive adequate protection.
Omosehin concluded by congratulating NAIPE on its milestone anniversary and reaffirmed his commitment to continued partnership to advance Nigeria’s insurance industry.
