The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Synergy Initiative has engaged the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to strengthen efforts in promoting insurance awareness among Nigerian youths while advancing the SDGs agenda.

During a courtesy visit yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Finance and Administration, Mr. Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon, welcomed the delegation and invited the Executive Director of the Initiative, Mr. Usman Alhaji Lawan, to outline its objectives.

Mr. Lawan revealed that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is supporting the Initiative as it plans a youth summit in collaboration with the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN). The summit is set to encourage active youth participation in achieving the SDGs, foster international partnerships including with the Brazilian Embassy, and highlight the role of young people in sustainable development.

He urged NAICOM to assist in educating youths on the importance of insurance, stressing that the summit would engage key stakeholders to ensure meaningful impact.

Mr. Ekerete responded by commending the Initiative’s vision and highlighting NAICOM’s ongoing efforts with the Federal Ministry of Youth to build the capacity of one million young Nigerians. He assured that the Commission would collaborate fully to enhance insurance penetration and youth engagement in the country.
