The Federal Government has intensified efforts to reform Nigeria’s seed certification system as part of measures to strengthen food security and curb rising food inflation.

On Monday in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kiyari, where both officials discussed strategies to improve farmers’ access to quality seeds.

The talks focused on decentralising seed certification, tightening quality control, and fast-tracking preparations for the upcoming dry season farming programme.

According to the Finance Ministry, the reforms are designed to boost agricultural productivity, attract private sector investment, and lay a stronger foundation for long-term economic growth.

The collaboration between the finance and agriculture ministries comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with high food prices, which remain a major driver of inflation across the country.
