The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has declared several individuals wanted for allegedly engaging in homosexual acts.
Homosexuality, defined as attraction between people of the same sex, is illegal in Nigeria and punishable by up to 14 years in prison under the country’s anti-LGBT law.
According to a police statement, the individuals include Olayemi Sunday Afolayan, Abimbola Adeyemi, Evaristus Ogueri, Ebeniro Asekokhai, Cornelius Christopher, and Taiwo Ademuyiwa Abayomi. They were reportedly caught practicing homosexuality by members of their community but fled the scene before police could apprehend them. The public has been urged to report any information on their whereabouts.
The statement added, “We have carried out a thorough investigation into this criminal act and found the allegations to be true. Sadly, in our attempts to apprehend them, they escaped. Anyone with useful information regarding their location should contact the nearest police station, as previous attempts to arrest and prosecute them have been unsuccessful.”
