The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has inaugurated the Board of Trustees for the Pension Industry Health Care Initiative, known as PenCare, a landmark programme aimed at providing quality healthcare services to retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The initiative was officially launched today by the Director-General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran (@Omololabo), in Abuja.

According to the Commission, PenCare represents a major step toward improving the post-retirement welfare of Nigerian workers by ensuring that access to healthcare becomes a guaranteed component of retirement benefits.

The programme is expected to bridge the long-standing gap in retirees’ access to affordable and efficient medical care after years of active service.

Ms. Oloworaran described PenCare as “a compassionate and forward-looking reform” that aligns with PenCom’s mandate to safeguard the wellbeing of contributors and retirees.

She added that the Board of Trustees will oversee the initiative’s implementation, partnerships, and sustainability framework to ensure its success across all states.

PenCom reaffirmed its commitment to deepening social protection for Nigerian workers and retirees through innovative pension-driven welfare programmes.
