The Federal Government has announced a 60 percent increase in Nigeria’s health budget for 2025, reaffirming its commitment to human capital development and economic transformation.
At the 2025 Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, said health investment remains central to the government’s growth strategy.
Commending the Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister of Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, for his leadership and innovation, Edun noted that Nigeria’s health reforms have become a model of accountability and international recognition.
He disclosed that the Basic Health Care Provision Fund has more than doubled—from ₦131 billion in 2024 to a projected ₦298 billion in 2026—while ₦150 billion will be mobilised for vaccine procurement.
“The health sector stands out for its transparency and impact. It demonstrates how good governance can attract investment and deliver inclusive growth,” Edun said.
Professor Pate welcomed the fiscal boost, pledging continued collaboration and innovation to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.
The Federal Government described the expanded funding as a testament to its dedication to citizens’ welfare and economic resilience, setting the stage for a healthier, more productive nation.
