Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has revealed that his administration will commence the gradual payment of verified pension and gratuity arrears owed to retired civil servants dating back to 2001.
In a statement, Governor Otti noted that settling these long-standing obligations is a priority for his government, emphasizing the need to restore financial dignity to retirees who have served the state over the years. He explained that the payments will be phased to ensure that all verified claims are addressed fairly and transparently.
The governor also urged retirees and pensioners to ensure their records are up-to-date and properly verified to facilitate smooth disbursement. The initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to improve welfare, strengthen public service trust, and honor commitments to its workforce.
This announcement brings renewed hope to thousands of pensioners in Abia State who have been awaiting their entitlements for over two decades.
