Ekiti State has set a benchmark in pension and gratuity administration, with the state government committing N200 million monthly to fully eliminate pension arrears.
In the past 18 months alone, the administration has paid out N7.6 billion in gratuities to retirees, while clearing N1.1 billion in pension arrears dating back to 2018. In addition, the state has fully implemented the Federal Government’s Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), earning recognition from the Pension Commission (PENCOM) as one of the top-performing states in pension remittance.
Governor Biodun Ayodele Ojo (BAO) has been credited for driving the transparent and efficient management of pension funds, ensuring that no retiree is left behind. Pensioners in the state are now enjoying the fruits of their labor, with the CPS rollout positioning Ekiti as a model for other states aiming for accountability and efficiency in pension administration.
“This administration has shown that prioritizing retirees’ welfare is key to good governance. Ekiti is now leading by example in pension management,” an official said
