The progressive leader of the talakawas, Dr. Sule Lamido, CON, along with Alhaji Lawal Batagarawa, paid an unscheduled visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, at his residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

During the meeting, the elder statesmen held extensive discussions on pressing national issues, including the state of the nation, Nigeria’s democratic direction, and the collective responsibility of leaders to promote unity, stability, and progress. The engagement reflects a continued commitment by respected national figures to meaningful dialogue and collaboration aimed at strengthening the country’s democratic foundations.

Dr. Lamido, one of the remaining founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), served as Jigawa State governor and has remained loyal to the party since its registration in 1998—despite widespread cross-carpeting among Nigerian politicians.

His visit to Obasanjo, a former PDP president who served two terms, is seen by analysts as connected to Lamido’s current political concerns within the party. It comes amid internal crises in the PDP and calls from his political supporters urging him to consider an alternative platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting also coincides with the expiration of the 10-day ultimatum given to the PDP to cancel its controversial Ibadan national delegates’ list, previously halted by court orders.
