The Jigawa State Government has approved the rehabilitation of three strategic dams—Dembo, Kuda and Hayin Warwade—at a total cost of ₦10,881,681,275.50, as part of measures to boost irrigation farming and enhance food security in the state.

The decision was taken at the State Executive Council meeting, with the intervention aimed at expanding irrigation infrastructure to support year-round agricultural production, create jobs and improve farmers’ incomes.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Sagir Musa, the Council also approved the supply of Pathway Organic Fertiliser at a cost of ₦224,999,000.00. He said the initiative is designed to promote climate-smart agriculture, improve soil health, encourage sustainable farming practices and protect the environment.

The Council further approved the payment of ₦360,200,000.00 as compensation to over 250 individuals affected by the expansion of the Hadejia Market. According to the commissioner, the compensation followed due process and is intended to support economic inclusion while enabling the modernization of the market.

Hon. Sagir Musa also disclosed that the Council approved the rehabilitation of six strategic roads and the procurement of road maintenance equipment for the Jigawa Road Maintenance Agency (JIRMA) at a total cost of ₦9,429,862,274.20.

The road projects include the:

Roundabout – General Hospital Bulangu – Kafin Hausa Road

Dubantu and Gawuna – Hadejia Road

Yalo – Unguwar Jibril Feeder Roads

Sakwaya – Rurum – Kudai Road

Kazaure – Roni – Takwardawa Road

Gantsa – Tijiyo – Ahoto Feeder Road
