Governor Malam Umar Namadi has said that the Jigawa State Government’s sustained investment in the education sector is yielding positive and measurable results, particularly at the basic education level across the state.
The governor made the assertion on Sunday while presiding over a Basic Education Stakeholders’ Roundtable Meeting held at the Government House in Dutse. The meeting was convened to review progress, identify challenges, and explore opportunities for strengthening basic education delivery in the state.
The roundtable, coordinated by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with the Office of the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education, brought together officials of the Ministry of Education and its agencies, development partners, non-governmental organisations, and other key stakeholders.
Presentations were made by government institutions, donor agencies, and civil society organisations, highlighting their respective interventions, achievements, and contributions toward improving access, quality, and learning outcomes in Jigawa State.
Governor Namadi expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, noting that the presentations clearly demonstrated the impact of government investment and partner support in the education sector.
“What we have seen today shows that our investment in education is truly producing results. The contributions of donor agencies and development partners, alongside government efforts, are becoming very clear and evident in the outcomes we are recording,” the governor said.
He commended development partners for their continued support and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining collaboration, assuring them of a conducive operating environment.
“As a government, we will continue to work with you and ensure that the environment remains conducive for you to carry out your interventions effectively,” he added.
The governor also pledged that all recommendations and contributions made during the meeting would be carefully reviewed and, where feasible, integrated into the state’s education policies and planning framework.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawal Yunusa Danzomo, explained that the stakeholders’ meeting brought together all departments, sectors, and institutions involved in education data management and service delivery.
He stressed that addressing challenges in the education sector requires collective effort, noting that the shared objective of all stakeholders is to ensure that every child in Jigawa State enrolls in school, remains in school, successfully transitions across levels, and completes their education.
Dr. Danzomo disclosed that recent assessments indicate improvements in access to education, pupil retention, transition rates, and completion rates. He also highlighted progress in teacher recruitment, deployment, training, attendance, and overall performance.
According to him, these achievements are a result of the political will of Governor Namadi, the enabling environment created by his administration, and the inclusive approach that allows all stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to educational development in the state.
The stakeholders’ roundtable forms part of the broader efforts of the Namadi administration to reposition education as a key driver of sustainable human capital development in Jigawa State.
Development partners and organisations that participated in the meeting included PLANE, AGILE, UNICEF, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Save the Children, and others.
