The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, has presented working equipment and financial support donated by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to journalists involved in a recent accident in Bauchi State.

Yahya handed over the items during a sympathy visit to the NUJ Bauchi State Council, commending the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, and the NEDC Managing Director for their prompt intervention.

The donation included high-resolution cameras, tripods and microphones for affected television stations—NTA, BATV, AIT and Arise Television—as well as Samsung Galaxy phones for each injured journalist and a cash support of N5 million.

The NUJ President called on the six governors of the North-East to prioritise insurance coverage for working journalists to ease healthcare challenges. He disclosed that the union is in discussions with the National Health Insurance Authority to facilitate members’ enrollment and urged journalists to embrace health insurance to reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Earlier, Bauchi State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, appreciated the national leadership’s support and announced plans to organise training on emergency response for members.

The visit also featured hospital visits to injured journalists at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital and an interactive session with the state executive council.
