The Rotary Club of Ojodu has honoured three distinguished Assistant Governors who have supervised and supported the club over the years as part of activities marking its 21st anniversary celebration.

The recognition took place during the club’s anniversary fellowship held on Sunday, 8 March 2026, at the prestigious Protea Hotel by Marriott, Ikeja, Lagos, where the honourees were celebrated for their leadership, commitment and unwavering support to the growth and development of the club.

Those honoured include the District Governor Nominee Designate, Rotarian Ade Oyenekan, who served the club as Assistant Governor during the 2016–2017 Rotary year; Past Assistant Governor Azu Arinze, who supervised the club during the 2024/2025 Rotary year; and Assistant Governor Adeniyi Adelaja, who is currently serving as the club’s Assistant Governor for the 2025/2026 Rotary year.

Presenting the awards, the District Governor of Rotary District 9111, Rotarian (Prince) Henry Akinyele, expressed delight at the recognition accorded to the three district leaders, describing the honour as well deserved. He commended the Rotary Club of Ojodu for appreciating leaders who have worked closely with the club over the years in advancing Rotary’s ideals of service and fellowship.

According to him, recognising individuals who have committed their time, experience and leadership to the development of Rotary strengthens the culture of appreciation and inspires continued service within the district.

The Rotary Club of Ojodu described the honourees as exemplary Rotarians who have consistently stood by the club through different phases of its growth, providing guidance, mentorship and encouragement that have contributed to its continued progress.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Rotary Club of Ojodu, Rotarian Martins Nnanna, noted that the honoured leaders have continually deployed what Rotarians often describe as the three Ts — time, talent and treasure — in ensuring that the club continues to grow and expand its impact within the community.

He added that their support and leadership have played a vital role in enabling the club to sustain its humanitarian initiatives and strengthen fellowship among members.

The awards formed part of activities marking the club’s 21st anniversary, which also featured the unveiling of the newly renovated male ward of the Ojodu Abiodun Community Health Centre at Ojodu-Berger, Lagos.

The celebration further included an anniversary lecture delivered by Mr Ayotunde Owodunni, MBET, a Nigerian-born Canadian politician and City Councillor in Kitchener, Ontario, who spoke on the theme, “The Role of Citizens in Building Peace: Why Community Leadership Matters More Than Ever.” He urged citizens and organisations to remain intentional about contributing positively to their communities and nurturing future leaders.

The event concluded with a colourful cultural display of Nigerian traditional attire and the presentation of awards to Rotarians and supporters who have contributed to the club’s growth over the years.

The Rotary Club of Ojodu, granted provisional status in 2002 and officially chartered on 8 March 2005, began with 26 founding members committed to promoting fellowship and impactful community service. Guided by the Rotary motto, Service Above Self, the club continues to strengthen partnerships and initiatives aimed at uplifting lives in Ojodu and surrounding communities
