A long-running family dispute involving allegations of sexual abuse, kidnapping, harassment and threats has continued to generate concern, following complaints made by Mrs. Janet Jegede against her relative, Mr. Seyi Jegede.
The matter dates back to December 15, 2016, when Mrs. Jegede reportedly approached the police over the disappearance of her daughter, Miss Victoria Jegede. She alleged that Victoria had gone missing in November 2016 and accused Mr. Seyi Jegede, who is Victoria’s uncle, of sexually abusing and kidnapping the young woman.
Mrs. Jegede further alleged that her daughter had been subjected to persistent harassment and threats by Mr. Seyi Jegede before her disappearance, raising fears about Victoria’s safety and whereabouts.
However, investigations into the allegations reportedly failed to establish evidence linking Mr. Seyi Jegede to kidnapping or the other allegations contained in the complaint. The matter was subsequently treated as a family dispute and reportedly dismissed, with Mrs. Jegede advised to seek a resolution within the family.
The controversy, however, did not end there.
On March 21, 2021, Mrs. Jegede reportedly lodged another complaint, this time alleging continued harassment and threats against her, allegedly involving area boys. The matter was said to have remained under investigation.
For the family, the prolonged dispute has reportedly brought anxiety, fear and uncertainty, particularly against the backdrop of rising insecurity in the country. An eyewitness within the family described the situation as deeply troubling, saying the alleged threats and harassment have continued to cast a shadow over the lives of those involved.
While the allegations remain claims and have not been established against Mr. Seyi Jegede, the unresolved nature of the dispute underscores the need for a fair, transparent investigation and an amicable resolution of the family conflict.
Efforts to establish the current status of the matter and the whereabouts of Victoria Jegede were not detailed in the information available to our correspondent.
